Karpacz: your base for Sniezka
Karpacz is the most convenient starting point for Sniezka. The town spreads over the slopes and is full of guesthouses, oscypek grills and souvenir shops. Trails set off from here into the Karkonosze National Park. Half a day is enough for a relaxed walk around Karpacz, lunch and a short hike; set aside a full day for the summit climb.
The climb up Sniezka
You reach Sniezka on foot along the trails from Karpacz, most often via Kopa, where a cable car carries you up, and then along the ridge to the very top. The climb takes a few hours and calls for good shoes and a jacket, as it can be cold and windy up there even in summer. On the summit stands the distinctive meteorological observatory shaped like stacked discs, and in good weather the view stretches far on both sides of the border.
The Wang Church
If you are not planning the summit, be sure to look in on the Wang Church. It is a wooden church from Vang in Norway, moved to Karpacz in the 19th century and reassembled without a single nail. An old cemetery with a stone tower surrounds it, and the whole thing sits in a quiet, wooded part of town. A visit takes under an hour and pairs perfectly with a walk around Karpacz.
