The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in Oświęcim lies ~40 km from Katowice. It was a German Nazi concentration and extermination camp, the largest site of the Holocaust, inscribed on the UNESCO list.
The visit covers two parts: Auschwitz I with its blocks and exhibitions and Auschwitz II-Birkenau with the tracks, barracks and ruins of the crematoria, with a licensed Museum guide-educator. The visit takes about 3.5 hours.
