The Potocki castle

The heart of Łańcut is the castle, once the residence of the Lubomirski and Potocki families, ringed by a moat and a park. Inside, the original interiors survive: drawing rooms, a ballroom, a library and bedrooms full of the furniture, paintings and fabrics from the days when the court was alive. The visit follows a set route through room after room, so it's good to book an entry time in advance, especially in season. Allow about an hour and a half for the castle itself.

The coach house and stables

What sets Łańcut apart is one of the largest collections of horse-drawn vehicles in Europe. The coach house and stables hold carriages, gigs, sleighs and all the machinery of travel in a bygone age, kept in superb condition. For children and adults alike this is often the most interesting part of the visit, because you're looking at real coaches rather than just paintings behind a rope. Set aside about an hour for the coach house.

The orchid house and the park

In the historic orchid house in the park, dozens of species of orchid bloom, and the greenhouse runs all year round, so the colours are a treat even in winter. The park around the castle is a large, well-kept garden with avenues and old trees, perfect for a stroll between the indoor visits. In summer it's worth keeping an hour just for the park itself.

How to get there from Rzeszów

Łańcut is close: about 20 kilometres east of Rzeszów, under half an hour by car. You can also go by train or bus, as connections are frequent, but there's still a walk from the station to the castle. The easiest way is to pull up right at the gate by private transfer: from 300 PLN (ca. 75 EUR) per car round trip, with hotel pickup and a driver who waits while you visit. With a family and children, that comfort makes a difference.

How much time you need

Half a day is enough for the castle with the coach house. Add the orchid house, a walk through the park and lunch in town and you have an easy full day.
