The Wieliczka Salt Mine near Krakow (~15 km) is one of the world’s oldest working salt mines and one of the first sites on the UNESCO list. Salt was mined here from the 13th century. It draws over 1.5 million visitors a year.
The Tourist Route runs ~135 m underground: salt sculptures, underground lakes, timber structures and the breathtaking St Kinga’s Chapel, carved entirely in salt. The guided visit takes ~2–3 hours (~3 km, 380 steps down).
