Gdańsk Airport (GDN) — where you are and what your options are

Lech Wałęsa Airport in Gdańsk (IATA code: GDN) is located in the Matarnia district (Rębiechowo), approximately 12 km from Gdańsk city centre, 18 km from Sopot and 26 km from the centre of Gdynia. As you leave the terminal you have four main transport options to the Tri-City: a private transfer, a traditional taxi, the city bus or the Fast Urban Railway (SKM).

Each of these options has its place — it depends on how many of you are travelling, how much luggage you have, what time your flight is and how much comfort matters to you. In this guide we break it all down.

Option 1: Private transfer — door-to-door, stress-free

A private transfer is a service in which the driver waits for you with a name board as you exit the terminal and takes you directly to the address you specify — hotel, apartment or home. No changes, no looking for a connection, no extra charges for luggage.

Private transfer prices from Gdańsk Airport

Sopot25–35 minfrom 140 PLN
Gdynia city centre35–50 minfrom 160 PLN
Gdynia Orłowo / Redłowo40–55 minfrom 170 PLN

Prices are quoted per whole car (up to 4 passengers). For larger groups, vans are available — only a little more expensive, but incomparably more comfortable than ordering several taxis.

When is a private transfer worth choosing?

  • You are travelling with family or in a group (2+ people) — the cost per person is then similar to a taxi or lower
  • You have a lot of luggage (suitcases, sports equipment, a child's pushchair)
  • You are flying at night or early in the morning, when public transport is not running
  • You want a guaranteed ride — with no risk of taxis running out in the queue
  • You are heading to an important meeting or a wedding and punctuality matters
Pro tip: With a private transfer the driver tracks your flight in real time. If the plane is delayed, the driver simply waits — with no surcharge for delays of up to 60 minutes.

Option 2: Traditional taxi from Gdańsk Airport

Taxis from official companies (e.g. iTaxi, Taxi Gdańsk, Super Taxi) operate from the airport around the clock. You will find the taxi rank by the terminal exit, on the left-hand side. Avoid unverified "taxi drivers" who approach you in the arrivals hall — they usually charge significantly higher fares.

Approximate taxi fares from GDN

DestinationFare (estimated)Drive time
Gdańsk city centre65–95 PLN20–35 min
Sopot90–130 PLN25–40 min
Gdynia city centre120–170 PLN35–55 min

Please note: taxi fares vary — they depend on the night tariff, traffic levels and the company. At weekends and during events it can be harder to find an available car.

Drawbacks of a traditional taxi

  • No guaranteed price before the ride (the meter can surprise you in traffic jams)
  • Queues at the rank during peak hours after large arrivals
  • For a group of 4+ people, two rides are required (an extra cost)
  • Luggage may be limited in a standard sedan

Option 3: Bus from the airport to the city centre

City bus line 210 runs from Gdańsk Airport to the centre of Gdańsk (Gdańsk Główny railway station). A ticket costs about 4–5 PLN (single) or is free if you hold a monthly ZTM Gdańsk pass. Buses run roughly every 20–30 minutes during the day.

Pros and cons of the bus

  • Pro: the cheapest option for a single traveller with light luggage
  • Pro: a fixed timetable during the day
  • Con: it does not run around the clock (no night services)
  • Con: with suitcases and children it is a logistical nightmare
  • Con: for Sopot and Gdynia you have to change
  • Con: the journey to the city centre takes 40–60 minutes with all the stops

Option 4: SKM — the Fast Urban Railway

From the airport you can walk (about 10 minutes) to the airport's PKM station and take the PKM train to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, where you change to the SKM. From Wrzeszcz the SKM runs to the centre of Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia. A combined PKM + SKM ticket costs about 5–8 PLN depending on the zone.

The SKM is a good option for travellers with light luggage heading to the centre of Gdańsk or to Sopot. For Gdynia the total journey time (bus + SKM) is about 55–70 minutes.

Which transfer should you choose? Our recommendations

For couples and families

A private transfer works out cheapest per person and is the most convenient. For two people the price per person is about 50 PLN to the centre of Gdańsk — similar to a taxi, but door-to-door with no waiting at the rank.

For groups of 4+ people

A van transfer is by far the best option. Instead of paying for two taxis, you pay for one van — cheaper, and everyone travels together.

For a solo traveller with a light backpack

If you are flying alone, have little luggage and arrive during the day, bus 210 or the SKM is enough. You will save about 90 PLN, at the cost of an extra 30–40 minutes.

For night-time or very early-morning travellers

A private transfer or a taxi — the other options simply do not run. With a private transfer you can be sure someone is waiting for you, regardless of any flight delay.
