The Gdańsk–Warsaw route — the basics
The road distance from the centre of Gdańsk to the centre of Warsaw is around 340 km — via the A1 motorway through Grudziądz and Toruń. In ideal conditions the drive takes 3–3.5 hours. By Pendolino train (IC/EIC) the journey takes 2 h 45 min – 3 h 15 min. A flight from Gdańsk (GDN) to Chopin Airport (WAW) is just 45–55 minutes in the air — but add the time to get to the airport, check in and collect your luggage.
Option 1: Private car transfer Gdańsk–Warsaw
A private driver is an option that's growing in popularity, especially among business travellers and families with small children. The driver picks you up from your home or hotel and takes you straight to your address in Warsaw — no transfers, no worries about luggage and no queues.
Price of a private Gdańsk–Warsaw transfer
The cost of a private sedan transfer (up to 4 people) from Gdańsk to the centre of Warsaw is usually 1700–1850 PLN for the whole car. With 2–4 people, the per-person cost is comparable to or lower than business-class flight tickets or two first-class Pendolino tickets.
Advantages of a private transfer
- Door-to-door pickup and drop-off — no need to travel to a station or airport
- You can work, rest or take phone calls along the way
- No luggage limits — bring as much as you need
- Flexible departure time — you set off when you want
- For groups of 3–4 it's often the cheapest option per person
- The option to stop along the way (e.g. for lunch or at an attraction)
Drawbacks of a private transfer
- A longer journey time than the train or plane
- Dependence on traffic — especially entering Warsaw during rush hour
- A higher cost for a single traveller than a budget flight or a second-class Pendolino ticket
Option 2: Pendolino / IC train Gdańsk–Warsaw
PKP Intercity runs the Gdańsk–Warsaw route more than a dozen times a day. The fastest trains (Pendolino EIP) cover it in 2 h 43 min. The carriages are comfortable, with WiFi, a restaurant car and room to work undisturbed.

- Plus: comfortable for working — a table, WiFi and a power socket
- Minus: a fixed timetable — you have to fit around the train
- Minus: can be awkward with large luggage (suitcases, strollers)
- Minus: prices rise sharply on popular dates

LOT Polish Airlines operates several flights a day between Gdańsk (GDN) and Warsaw (WAW). Flight time: about 50 minutes. The real door-to-door total is often 3.5–4.5 hours.
